Autumn view of Treetops grounds

The Treetops Volunteer Gardening Team have been updating everyone on what they have been up to in our gardens and grounds this month…

“The clocks have gone back an hour and overnight we seem to have gone into the dark winter months. The gardens are gradually going to sleep as the light levels drop, and as the temperatures drop, our social distanced tea breaks around a large outside table are less enticing. We may need to buy some thermal blankets!!

But on a more positive and cheerful note – Autumn is here – which means we have the joy of seeing all the beautiful autumn colours – with the hospice’s interior courtyard garden looking particularly colourful.

There are still many jobs to do. With the leaves now dropping fast, every Tuesday and Friday morning you will see at least two or three of us busy sweeping them all up, ready to put into the leaf bins. As if by magic, over the next few months, they will change into some beautiful leaf mulch ready for the flower beds next Spring.

The flower beds and borders are gradually getting their autumn tidy up and being replenished with spring bulbs and plants.

The old compost bins near the greenhouse are gradually being emptied of the finished compost, and we already have two enormous sacks full ready for using over the winter and into next year.”
