Frequently Asked Questions
Registration
What is the Moonlight Walk?
The Moonlight Walk is a sponsored charity walk for Treetops Hospice.
For 2024, participants can choose either a 5k or a 10k route around Derby city centre.
Your entry includes an official Moonlight Walk t-shirt, finishers medal and on the night entertainment.
The Moonlight Walk was previously known as the Starlight Strut. It is a night walk.
How do I enter to the Moonlight Walk?
Please register for the Moonlight Walk online here.
If you do not have access to a computer, please request a paper entry form by calling the Moonlight Walk team on 0115 949 1264.
Who is the Moonlight Walk open to?
The walk is open to everyone. You can walk by yourself, with family and friends, or as part of a team.
We advise the minimum age of participants is 13 years old, but ultimately it is down to the parent or guardian as to whether they think the child is competent to walk 10k.
Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult who has also entered the event and will take full responsibility for them.
The route is pushchair friendly, but there may be areas of uneven ground.
Do I have to fundraise to take part?
Yes, we ask for you to raise sponsorship or donate in addition to the entry fee.
You are welcome to take part in the walk no matter how much you raise. There is no minimum amount, but we hope everyone will try to raise at least £48 as this will help to fund 4 hours of Hospice at Home nursing care.
If you can raise more, that would be wonderful. We’ll provide fundraising tips and support to help you reach your goal.
When do I get my Moonlight Walk t-shirt?
You can collect your Moonlight Walk t-shirt and walker number (and party pack, if purchased) before the walk starts at the Bustler Derby. You will be given a collection time slot (between 6pm and 7.30pm) as part of the pre-event pack emailed out 2 weeks before the event.
If you wish to receive them beforehand, please pay postage and packaging and we will post them out to you.
Unfortunately, we will not be able to post anything out after Friday 16 August 2024.
If I cannot take part, can I pass my place onto someone else?
Regrettably not. Your Moonlight Walk place is non transferable (it cannot be passed to anyone else).
What if I can’t make the event on the day?
If possible, please let us know ahead of time if you can’t make it to the event.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds on registrations.
The Moonlight Walk is our biggest event and costly to organise. If you don’t use your place, your registration fee will be treated as a donation to the hospice.
Will my sponsors be refunded if I cannot take part?
We cannot pay the sponsorship money back to you, but if your sponsors contact us, we will be able to arrange a refund to them.
We are grateful that in these circumstances, most people allow us to keep their sponsorship.
Event Details
When will I find out about the 'on the day' event details?
Everything you need to know, including the event programme, will be emailed out to you as part of the pre-event pack 2 weeks before the event.
What time will the Moonlight Walk finish?
The Moonlight Walk is a night walk. The event will officially finish once the last walkers have crossed the finish line, but you are free to leave as soon as you have signed out.
You should allow at least 90-120 minutes to complete the 10k course, depending on your walking speed.
Where can I find the route?
Specific details about the route will be sent out as part of your pre-event information pack 2 weeks before the event.
Can supporters come?
This is a free spectator event, and you are more than welcome to bring your supporters to cheer you on along the route.
Due to capacity, we regret that they will not have access to the venue.
Why not encourage them to be one of our official volunteers? You can find out more about supporting the Moonlight Walk here.
Is the charity walk accessible for people with mobility difficulties?
Both the 5k and 10k routes are on public footpaths. We have planned a route that contains no steps, however there will be some road crossings, kerbs and parts of uneven ground.
If you have any questions about the route, please contact us at moonlightwalk@treetops.org.uk
Can I bring my dog to the event?
Regrettably, we cannot include dogs in the Moonlight Walk, other than assistance dogs.
Can I stop if I can’t complete the walk?
Yes. We ask you to stop at a marshal point and inform them you are leaving the event.
If you are injured or unwell, please stop in a safe place on the route and ask a fellow walker to inform the next marshal so they can arrange medical assistance for you.
This year’s route goes past the starting venue at the 5k point. If you have signed up for the 10k, but can’t continue past this point, please head back to the venue and let us know.
