Youngsters from Long Eaton and Dovedale Primary Schools wrote letters and drew pictures to be included in Cake and Care packages which are being distributed by Risley-based Treetops during the Coronavirus outbreak.

These packages – which contain food items, messages of support, craft activities and puzzles – have been greatly appreciated by the 80-plus Wellbeing patients who have received them and, following the success of a £20,800 grant from Foundation Derbyshire, the scheme is set to be extended.
Lovely letters
One Treetops Wellbeing patient, from Long Eaton, said:
“I am a pensioner living with my wife. Both of us are suffering with Covid-19.
“I am sure that you can understand our delight when a member of staff from Treetops arrived with a parcel containing not just food but two lovely letters from local school pupils. It is testament to the philosophy of the schools that pupils are encouraged to do this.”
To reward the youngsters for their efforts, Treetops have donated five giant Easter eggs which were gifted by Stafford-based Magna Confectionary to local schools for the children of keyworkers to share.
Treetops provides nursing care and emotional support for adults with life-limiting conditions such as cancer, neurological conditions, and heart and respiratory conditions. The hospice also cares for patients’ families and carers.
Treetops is doing all it can to continue to support those in most need. However the charity predicts a huge loss in income due to the temporary closure of all their charity shops, and postponement or cancellation of many fundraising events. Donations to Treetops Emergency Appeal can be made here.
