Book a talk

Looking for a local speaker? Book a talk by Treetops.

Looking for a local guest speaker at your next meeting? We can offer a variety of talks to small and large local groups including:

  • Clubs and organisations
  • Schools and colleges
  • Local businesses

Through our talks, we hope more people will get to know about Treetops and our care. So, if you, a friend, or family member needs our support, you will know where to turn.

What does booking a speaker for your local group involve?

Our talks tend to be 45 minutes to an hour, allowing for questions. We can usually adapt them to be longer or shorter time slots. We are happy to attend a talk for free but, if possible, we would welcome a donation. Donations help us continue to provide our care for patients and families in the local community.

We can bring the resources needed (such as a screen, projector, and speaker) if you do not have them available. This enables you to hear from our patients and families about the care we give.

What can our Treetops guest speaker talk about?

We can offer to speak at your group on a variety of topics as follows:

Treetops: Your local hospice

Learn more about our history: how we grew from a campaign by local people to become the successful end-of-life charity we are today. We will talk about our services and how you can access them. You will also hear from adults and children in our community about how we have supported them.

A good death – Why planning for your death is important

Jayne Smith, retired probate solicitor shares the reasons why it’s important to plan for your death while you’re still in good health. How taking a moment now, to tell people your wishes for health care and finances can bring you and your loved one’s security. This talk is not as solemn as it sounds. Jayne will look back over

her career and share some anonymous tales of the outcomes of a poorly written will.

Caring for local children and young people – Treetops bereavement care

We will talk about our counselling and emotional support for children and young people who are dealing with bereavement. This includes how we have developed the service to be the biggest in the region, including one-to-one care, specialist support for traumatised children and training for staff at local schools and organisations. You will also hear from some of the children who’ve received counselling support and Treetops counsellors.

Other topics

If you wish to arrange a talk for your local group on a different topic, please contact us at fundraising@treetops.org.uk For example, we have been happy to talk to students about working at a hospice. A fundraiser has also shared their adventure of trekking overseas while fundraising for us.

Bring your group to Treetops

If you prefer, we may be able to arrange for you to hold your meeting here at the hospice in Risley, Derbyshire. We can provide you with a cuppa and cake, and combine a talk with a tour of the hospice. We have limited dates and times available, but we will do our best to accommodate your request, so please get in touch below.
